Revolutionising Climate Action and Social Impact

As we worked through the process of organising our efforts to deliver meaningful impact across Africa, and researched the legal and technical operational challenges associated to delivering programs, we took the decision to establish our own non profit NGO entity in UK, both as a demonstrator for the application of our technology platform, but also a fully operationally and legally independent business franchise.

Heroes Academy

Our initial efforts focused on designing the content structure and overall model, along with the supporting digital technology for the “learn to earn” KPI driven user experience.

Along the way we recruited some experienced and capable experts in the field of education, Dr Boikanyo Trust Phenyo and Dr Ikechi Agbugba, who now lead the rollout of the program.

Though the program is in its infancy, we are proud to present the Mpowa Heroes Academy and its associated digital platform “Impactivator” to the world.

The idea to establish a “heroes academy” was initially born on a trip to South Africa in 2021, during the dark days of COVID. Having encountered so many young, passionate and talented Africans, fighting to improve their communities, but held back by lack of access to the resources and training they needed to initiate viable impact projects, led us to the conclusion that the primary mission of Mpowa and our platform should be to capacity build the army of leaders who can carry the mission we have set ourselves.

All great social transformations in history were led by university age youth unwilling to accept the “Status Quo” and going out into the world with determination to change things for the better.

Disaster Relief Program

As we developed our market outreach and community growth across Africa, we encountered many situations and people dealing with crisis situations where the international community and national governments are failing to deliver meaningful support to local populations.

Given this gap in the market, we saw a unique opportunity to leverage aspects of the Mpowa platform, alongside external partners, to initiate projects to better assist these communities and bring resources directly to the most needy.

After a year of operational delays and challenges, we have now prepared to launch soon! the program with a portfolio of initial projects in Africa, tackling refugee, environmental catastrophe and other serious social issues.

Stop The Abuse!

In 2024, the Department of Criminal Justice Studies at the University of North Dakota collaborated with Mpowa to produce a report on the subject of Intimate Partner/Gender-Based Violence (GBV) against women in Africa. This report serves as a vital resource in shedding light on the pressing challenges women face, particularly in regions where GBV is prevalent, and calls for urgent action to address these human rights violations.

To answer the findings in the report, and create a mass mobilisation to end the scourge of GBV/IPV and domestic abuse of women across Africa, and the world, Mpowa is initiating the “Stop Abuse!” campaign. We call all well intentioned people everywhere, activists, artists, actors, media personalities, fashionistas and thought leaders, both individuals and organisations, to join with Mpowa and sign the WakanDAO pledge. This includes an explicit commitment to lobby for policy changes and get involved with projects and programs which empower women economically launched by Mpowa and our ecosystem partners.

This includes programmatic and sustained efforts both to raise awareness via youth education programs and launch projects like Mpowa fashion cafe and associated social enterprises working to stimulate greater inter-sex collaboration and social cohesion.

Since 2023, Mpowa has been committed to the UN Global Compact corporate responsibility initiative and its principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption.
